Hospital Bag Checklist - Northern Virginia and Washington DC Birth Photographer

Hospital Bag Checklist

 

I am usually an over-packer, but I always seem to forget one or two important things. I decided to make a list of my must-have hospital bag items and share it with you! You can even purchase your own hospital gown, so you don't have to wear the unflattering hospital ones.

For Mom:

  • Socks!
  • Pillow
  • Flip flops
  • Nursing bras
  • PJs
  • Underwear
  • Nursing pads and nipple cream
  • Going home outfit (I always packed pre-pregnancy clothes to wear home and then got upset when they didn't fit. As much as we would love to instantly have our old body back, that's not the case. Leggings are perfect!)

For Baby:

  • Car seat!
  • Going home outfit
  • Nursing pillow
  • Hat

Toiletries:

  • Brush
  • Hair tie
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste
  • Chapstick!

Other Important Items:

  • Insurance card
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Laptop and charger
  • Birth Plan
  • Pen
  • List of who to call
  • Snacks and drinks (water, Gatorade, etc)
  • Magazines and books
  • Music

Some families even bring their own wipes, diapers, and pacifiers. The hospital actually provides those items, so I don't find them necessary to pack. Unless of course, you're using specialty items.
